Property Assessment in Rosthern
The Saskatchewan Assessment Management Agency (SAMA) is responsible for managing property assessments across the province. They work with municipalities, stakeholders, and the provincial government to keep the system fair and accurate. SAMA completes all property assessments for the Town of Rosthern.
Property values are reviewed every four years. The last review was in 2025, and the next one will happen in 2029. During this update, property values will be based on what they were worth on January 1, 2023. This is called the “base date,” and it means your 2025 assessment reflects your property’s value as of that date.
Important: Property assessment is not the same as property tax.
- Assessment determines your property’s value.
- Property tax is calculated by multiplying your taxable assessment by the mill rate.
- The local mill rate is set by the municipality each year based on its budget.
- The province sets the education mill rate, and municipalities cannot change it. Everyone pays education tax, even if you don’t have children in school.
Your property tax bill = Taxable Assessment × Local Mill Rate (plus the education mill rate).
