Town of Rosthern Celebrates Opening of New Water Treatment Plant

The Town is proud to celebrate the official opening of its new Water Treatment Plant, a significant milestone in the community's Water Supply and Treatment Plant Upgrade Project.

The new facility represents a major investment in essential infrastructure and will help ensure a safe, reliable, and sustainable water supply for residents, businesses, institutions, and future growth throughout the region.

"For more than 60 years, our original Water Treatment Plant provided safe and dependable water to our community," said Mayor Dennis Helmuth. "This new facility offers significantly increased capacity to support our growing population, businesses, and community services while ensuring a reliable water supply for future generations."

The new water treatment plant is a key component of a comprehensive water infrastructure upgrade that includes five new water wells, expanded reservoir storage, new raw water supply lines, enhanced communications and control systems, upgrades to well control buildings, and the future decommissioning and demolition of aging water treatment plant.

The project represents a total investment of approximately $19.6 million through a partnership between the Town of Rosthern, the Government of Saskatchewan, and the Government of Canada under the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program's Green Infrastructure Stream.

"Investments in reliable water infrastructure are vital to the health and long-term sustainability of communities across Saskatchewan like Rosthern," said the Honourable Buckley Belanger, Secretary of State for Rural Development. "The Government of Canada is proud to support a project that will ensure residents have access to a safe and reliable water supply while helping unlock future growth opportunities."

Federal funding of approximately $7.8 million was complemented by a provincial contribution of approximately $6.5 million and an investment of approximately $5.2 million from the Town of Rosthern.

"Infrastructure is critical to building and sustaining growth across Saskatchewan," said the Honourable Eric Schmalz, Minister of Government Relations. "This new Water Treatment Plant will deliver reliable, safe drinking water and support Rosthern's future for generations to come. Today's opening reflects years of dedication, collaboration, and leadership from all project partners."

As a regional service centre, Rosthern serves not only local residents but also thousands of people who access healthcare, education, recreation, and other essential services in the community. The upgraded water system strengthens the Town's ability to meet these regional demands while supporting future residential, commercial, and industrial development.

"Our community continues to grow and evolve," said Mayor Helmuth. "This investment ensures we have the infrastructure necessary to support that growth. It also benefits the many people who come to Rosthern every day for services, work, education, and recreation. We sincerely thank our federal and provincial partners for their commitment to helping make this project a reality."

The new facility improves treatment capacity, operational reliability, and long-term resiliency while positioning the community for future opportunities. It also reflects a shared commitment among all funding partners to invest in infrastructure that supports economic development and enhances quality of life.

The Town of Rosthern acknowledges the contributions of the engineers, contractors, consultants, operators, and staff whose expertise and dedication helped bring the project to completion.
